Pow Wow Highway: A modern day vision quest with a wonderful Holy Fool character. Primarily Native American cast.

Phenomenon: On his thirty-something birthday George steps outside in the clear summer night and sees a light which streaks out of the heavens and knocks him down. When he gets up he is changed. The film is an understated exploration of human potential. Great cast: John Travolta, Kyra Sedgewick, Forest Whitaker, Robert Duval. A very nice piece on death.

Being There: This film is often found in the comedy section, perhaps, because it stars Peter Sellers, in his last role, and Shirley MacLaine. This is a very potent look at the Holy Fool as innocent. Here the last scene ties the whole film together. This is one of my favorite spiritual films.

Powder: Moving film about an outcast teenage boy with phenomenal abilities.

Made in Heaven: This is a good romance, but at its core it takes a speculative look at what happens when we die and what happens to us when we are born. It explains the phenomena of why we feel we have known someone forever although we have just met. Timothy Hutton and Kelly McGillis.

Heaven Can Wait: Is another take on this same subject. this is more comedy than romance and has the benefit of Charles Grodin as a lovely bad guy.
