Movies That Heal Through Inspiration Or Sheer Beauty Of The Art
Star Wars: Great mythological material. Especially
father
stuff--both the dark and the light father.
Sirens: This film is about waking up to sensuality.
Beautifully filmed, with almost no dialog. Some scenes are so beautiful
they stop the breath.
Color Purple: My friend Thom says that every scene is
an
epiphany. He’s right. Danny Glover and Whoopie Goldberg are amazing.
Stephen Spielberg directed. Oprah got her start in this film.
Little Buddha: This is a stunningly beautiful film.
Bernado Bertolucci directed. The whole film is about impermanence and
love that bridges impermanence. It was partly filmed in Seattle. One of
the most important touches in the film happens after all the credits have
rolled by.
Stealing Beauty: Also by Bertolucci, also beautiful.
It
doesn’t have the magic of Little Buddha, but it touches beauty, art and
death, and it is set in the Tucson hills of Italy, what’s not to like.
Much Ado about Nothing: Also set in the Tucson hills
of
Italy. Shakespeare’s romantic comedy. Kenneth Brannaugh does it
brilliantly and joyfully. If you need some joy and humor, this is great.
Shakespeare’s language is intact.
Henry V This is also Kenneth Brannaugh, but at
Shakespeare’s most stirring. A vastly outnumbered, courageous British
army defeats the French.
Lone Star This is another of John Sayles’s films. I
think
he does some of the best work in developing character and telling a story.
This is a great example.
