Sacred Landscapes

Waiting for Sunrise

TSummer solstice, which occurs around 21st of June, is one of the most energetically potent days of the year. For millennia people all over the world take note of and honor this the longest day of the year. Shakespeare's magical play, A Midsummer Night's Dream, takes place on the eve of solstice. It is a time when the barriers between the world of man and the subtle realms become thinner and we can cross over. Faeries and elves commingle with the humans and in Shakespeare's play, mischief ensues. In the morning, all is put right.

If we shadows have offended,
Think but this, and all is mended,
That you have but slumber'd here
While these visions did appear.
-- A Midsummer Night's Dream

At Madison Beach, on Lake Washington it is so still and peaceful in predawn light that even the geese are silent. This view faces Northeast past the world's longest floating bridge towards the sunrise, not a bad metaphor for crossing over.
