I got up before dawn in August, and headed east, hoping to arrive somewhere magical before the sun rose. This was an exploration, I didn't know where I was going, I was just following my heart, turning here, turning there. Just before I got here the sun rose over the hill I was climbing in my trusty car. I was on a dirt road with no shoulders, blinded. I trusted that the unlikely possibility of people coming down the road would take pity on my blindness and go slowly. I crested the hill and saw this place. I could see for, maybe, fifty miles in every direction. In the mown wheat fields behind me, deer were grazing. Birds were flying, but there wasn't a sound. The silence precipitated a connection to deep stillness. I stepped through the doorway of Stillness and was transformed. Note: this is a highly enhanced version of the print. I place it here to show you the possibilities in varied editions. |
