Sacred Landscapes

Dry Falls

People who don't live in Washington State, and some who do, cannot imagine that this image comes from Washington.

It does.

What's more it wasn't carved as the Grand Canyon et al were. This was carved in moments by a cataclysmic flood. The dry falls on the other side of this butte exceeded the scope of Niagara many times over.

Imagine, please, a lake covering Montana. Got it. Now imagine that the ice dam that holds back the water, breaks in one instant. Where's the water go? What's it do?

It carves washington and the Grand Coulee. Dry Falls is at the far end of this deluge.

Oh, in case you can't tell, this is now a sage brush desert. The cold and cloudy March morning I drew this I saw a mink crossing on his way to the stream. Wonderful!
