Sacred Landscapes

by William Wittmann

frog

This frog is a humorous reminder to be still. Zen masters use the sitting frog in their art, Zenga, to remind us to sit as still and as alert as a frog on a lily pad. This is my version. The title is drawn from this poem:

You don't even have to leave your room.
Sit at your table and wait.
Don't even wait.
Be still, be quiet, be solitary,
and the world will freely offer itself
to be unmasked, it has no choice,
it will roll in ecstasy at your feet.
