The energy and majesty of this confluence almost overwhelms me and calls me back year after year for another dose of its powerful medicine. Below in the foreground is the Palouse River flowing downstream about a mile from the spectacular, taller than Niagara, Palouse Falls. In the middle right edge of the image, you can see the powerful Snake River. Together the Palouse and the Snake flow to the Tri-Cities to join with the mighty Columbia. Sit and listen. I heard the universe expanding and galaxies being formed. Go there. Eat lightly. Skip the coffee. On the morning I was last there, I heard the pterodactyl "gronks" of great blue herons echoing off the cliffs and three ospreys wheeled up over the cliff in front of me, one carrying a fish, and continued to wheel up and glide off into the sky up river. White pelicans fly as if not moving across the face of the distant cliffs giving me some perspective as to the canyon's scale. |
