Art for the Soul
I have been using art to inspire and heal myself for years. The creation
of art, viewing art, and buying art have all been beneficial to me. Art can be
a way to open up healing channels to the Sacred. My friend Bill used to make a
distinction between "art" and "for really art". "For really art" is
art which is created specifically to connect you to the sacred. In his context that
meant Native American Shamanic art. "For really art" is what I aim at. My
art comes out of an American tradition which means that I am a melting pot
of many traditions, I freely borrow ideas from all over the world and all
over time. My spirit flows though these traditions into creation.
I create in two broad categories: Painting and Temple Pieces. The
paintings are always images that have inspired me with the presence of the Sacred
and as such the paintings can serve as doorways into the realms of wonder or
places of peacefulness. The Temple Pieces are made from found objects that
sing to me when I come across them. They could be special stones, a polished
piece of wood, or the skull my friend raccoon left behind when he went on to
the next world. Whatever the objects are, they have a vitality and a
presence that once again brings me in close contact to the Creator. These found
objects are combined with other articles to work in concert in such a way as to
connect
you to spirit and in some way move your heart and soul. With these
Temple
Pieces I feel my way along, listening to the life impulse coming from
within the
heart of the creation. It is a collaborative effort between me and the
creation.
Both my painting and temple pieces come in various sizes. I like to
paint
miniatures and to make Little Blessings, which are the small sized
temple
pieces.
The way to select art is to choose with your heart. Find something
that you
resonate with. One of my collectors looks at my art and knows immediately that she
wants it. She has a visceral response, and because she is quick about
it, she
has a number of my pieces around now. Some of the pieces go quickly.
How
much do they cost? With patients and students I'm working pretty much
on a
love offering negotiation. Let me know that you want it, make me an
offer and
we arrive at a price that works for both of us. The price for people
that are not
already working with me will be more fixed.
How do you get to see the art? Call me to see if I have any for sale,
schedule a
time to come visit the art. That's it. From time to time my art is in
galleries and
shops, call me and I'll let you know where to find it.
Having inspirational art around you is a powerful way to transform your
work
and home spaces into sacred space.
